S2 (diatomic Sulphur), sulphur exists as S2 in vapor phase which is paramagnetic. In vapour state, sulphur partly exists as S2 molecule which has 2 unpaired electrons

- At room temperature, sulphur exist in solid phase as S8 molecule.
- As no upaired electrons present in antibonding π-orbital, S8 is diamagnetic.
- When temperature is raised above 1000 K, sulphur changes to vapour phase as S2 molecule.
- S2 molecule contains 2 unpaired electrons in antibonding π-orbital. Thus it is paramagnetic.
- Therefore, sulphur at 1000 K shows paramagnetism.
