given: ABCDE is a pentagon and its perimeter = 21cm
           BE||CD and BC||DE AND BC is perpendicular to CD.

sol.  therefore, if  BE||CD and BC||DE AND BC is perpendicular to CD then BCDE is a rectangle.

now, BE=CD                                                ......(opp. sides of rectangle)
therefore, x+y=5cm.                                    .......(1)

now,
perimeter of ABCDE is 21 cm.
hence,
AB + BC + CD+ DE + EA= 21cm.
3 + (x-y) + (x+y) + (x-y) + 3 = 21
6 + 3(x-y) = 21
3(x-y) = 15
x - y = 5                                                ...........(2)

After solving (1) and (2), you will get
(adding 1 and 2 will cancel out y and you will get value for x then substitute it to get y)

x=5 and y=0
