In our society we generally blame mother for sex of baby but scientifically, father is responsible for sex of baby. Mother and Father bith have 23 pair of chromosomes out of which 22 are autosomes and 1 pair is of sex chromosome. Mother has Only XX chromosome while father have XY chromosomes.

When Father X fuses with Mother's any of X then a baby girl ( XX ) is formed. But when Father Y fuses with Mother X it forms baby boy( XY ) .
