Hi Siddhi,
Absentee sovereigntyship of the British meant that India was ruled by its British colonisers from England, a distance of thousands of miles. The earlier rulers like Mughals had come from outside India but had settled in their conquered land over time. The revenues they collected from Indians were spent on local welfare only. However, in the case of the British, India’s wealth was being drained to England and not utilised for local welfare.
