An abstract noun is a noun that refers to an idea or a general quality. It does not refer to a physical object. Some of the examples of abstract nouns are: goodness, freedom, wisdom, brilliance, poverty, justice, philosophy, anger, peace, happiness, calm, etc. In order to understand abstract nouns properly you should always keep its definition in mind.

There can be two abstract nouns for the word ‘press’ given as under:

1.       The first abstract noun of the word can be ‘press’. Here its meaning is the type or amount of reports that newspapers write about something or somebody.

Example: His rally got very little press.

2.       The second abstract noun of the word ‘press’ can be pressure. Here the meaning of word ‘pressure’ is ‘the force or weight with which something presses against something else.

Example: The barriers were broken by the pressure from the crowd.
