   Acceptance testing is done by the customer when the software or hardware or machine or appliance is delivered to the customer.

   At beginning of giving the contract or while purchasing the product, the customer gives his/her specifications. Those tell the vendor or developer the functional requirements. 

    The acceptance testing state involves verification of the performance of the product as per the requirement (functional) specifications given earlier.

   If the testing proves that the requirements have been satisfied, then the product is accepted. Otherwise, the product is taken back for development or it is rejected.
