Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was one of the most important social reformers of India. He was a politician and a great leader. Ambedkar fought against caste and class discrimination that is very rampant in India and sacrificed his life for social equality and justice.
Ambedkar believed that communalism is inherent in the hindu social organization. I agree to this statement because Hinduism, for many decades, has encouraged inequality in the name of caste. During the rigvedic times, the segregation was made based on one's profession. Hence the four varnas - Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras came into existence. But unfortunately over the decades, the line became very stringent and the Brahmins became authoritative and treated the other varnas, especially the Shudras, as 'lower caste'. Untouchability, the most sinful practice, was followed by Brahmins and Shudras were humilated and harrased for many generations.
Today such practices are not rampant but they still exist in several ways. Social reformers like Ambedkar have strived to eradicate such social evils.
