According to Bohr and Bury scheme what is the maximum no:of electrons present in M Shell of an atom ?
Is it 8 or 18 ?
Plz explain .....

The number of electrons in the nth shell of an atom has 2n^2 electrons :
In K shell
n = 1
number of electrons = 2×1^2 = 2

In L shell
n = 2
number of electrons = 2×2^2 = 8

In M shell
n = 3
number of electrons = 2×3^2 = 18

according to the formula 2(n)^2
where n is the no. of the shell
M shell is the 3rd shell so by the orbital spdf theorem their is 2(*3)^2=18 but the stable electronic configuration is 8 electron in the valence shell so it is also 8
but if there are 4 shells then the no. of electrons at the third shell will be 18
