As per the census 2001 the population was 540851 (approx.)
After the independence the census is conducted by Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Sikkim lies in the North east of India. Its capital is Gangtok. This state is also known for its bio-diversity. It is also the first Green State of India.
