A lump of positive charge

According to JJ Thompson who proposed the first model for the structure of atom. We know that, Atom is electrically neutral, it means that, if an atom contains negative charge, it also contains positive charge.

Then, he postulated that a stable arrangement of this charges are only possible when the negatively charged (electrons) are embedded in lump of positive charge (Protons). Isn't it similar to a sweet delicious pudding?⚕ Yeah, That's why, It is also known as Plum-pudding model in which, the raisins represents electrons and pudding represents positive charge.

But this model could not satisfied the neutrality of atom and also many other predictions by other scientists.

  • Rutherford \large{\bf{\alpha}} scattering experiment - In this model, he bombarded alpha particles and came with the result that mass of atom is concentrated in the central known as Nucleus.
  • Bohr's Model of atom - It was the most accepted model describing the structure of atom. He postulated that electrons move in fixed orbits around the nucleus. It described the stability and neutrality of atom.
