According to NCRB, approximately 6000 dowry deaths take place in India.

Section 304B of the IPC defines dowry death as the unnatural death of a woman following harassment or cruelty by her husband or his relatives in connection with a demand for dowry. To be precise on data, there were nearly seven thousand reported dowry deaths in India. Though there was a gradual decrease from the year 2014, in which this number was approximately 8.5 thousand, it's still a big number and the government should take adequate steps to control the same. Some of which may include:-

• Educate the girl child, encourage them to be independent.
• Government should organize campaigns and awareness programs should be designed to reach the deepest strata of the society and aim to spread knowledge about the legal provisions against dowry.
