Edward Thorndike’s theory:

Thorndike's theory was a connotation theory, as most the theories in that time.

He believed that the connotation between stimulus and response was hardened by a reward or sanction.

He also supposed that motivation was a significant factor in learning.

The law of effect principle was also established by Edward Thorndike
