Chlorine has higher electron gain enthalpy than fluorine because due to small size of fluorine some energy is utilized in overcoming the force of repulsion among electrons. ... but chlorine has bigger size and can easily afford an extra electron, so its electro negtivity is higher than fluorine.

Chlorine (Cl) has more negativeelectron gain enthalpy than fluorine (F). F has less negative electron gain enthalpy because in it the addedelectron goes to the smaller energy level (n=2) and hence suffers significant repulsion from theelectrons already present in this shell.
