Heya

The mixture of water and acetone is separated by a process called Fractional Distillation.

Fraction Distillation is a process of heating a mixture of two liquids which have a difference in their boiling points.

The liquid which has less boiling point turns into vapours and the other liquid is left back.

The vapours are then cooled to get the liquid.

Difference in the boiling points of acetone and water is 25K.

The mixture of water and acetone is taken in a distillation flask and is slowly heated till acetone evaporates.

Water is collected in the distillation flask and acteone vapours are condensed to get acetone.

Thus the mixture is separated.

Here, the principle is the difference in the boiling points of the two miscible liquids.

Hope it helps ^_^

distillation
the principle is that the constituents of the mixture that need to be separated have a sufficient difference in their boiling points and boil without decomposition
