P-hydroxy benzoic acid is less acidic in character than O-hydroxy benzoic acid because the M+ effect of OH group at p position decreases its acidity. O-hydroxy benzoic acid is more acidic in character because after losing H+ the COO- is stabilised by H-bonding with OH group.
