A major earthquake with a Richter scale of 7.8 hit Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province of China on 12 May 2008, causing huge casualties and extensive damage to property. Rough statistics as of 7pm on 13thMay showed that, over 12,000 people had been killed, 26,206 injured, 9,404 remained trapped in leveled buildings and 7,841 missing while 3.46 million houses had collapsed or been damaged and local infrastructures seriously damaged. The aftermath of the earthquake has shocked the whole of China. The military as well as civilian organizations have been emergently mobilized to go all out jointly in the relief and rescue efforts.
People from all walks of life in Singapore have offered to help and moved quickly to make donations of funds for the people in the disaster-stricken areas in China,
