Action of soap and detergent in oily cloth?

water alone doesn't clean clothes alone
because it won't attach to molecules of greese and dirt..

detergent and soap is different...

the surfactants it contains are made of molecules that have two different ends...

one end is strongly attached to water..

the other is attached to oily products like greese...

the molecules of soaps contains sodium or potassium salts of long chain carboxylic acids...

it forms an emulsion in water and helps in dissolving the dirt when we wash clothes....

Soap does not clean the oili cloth because when we mix then it perpare paoas and detergent clean the oili cloth
