★ Active voice.

⇒The form of the word which shows the importance of its subject ( doer of the action) is called the active voice.

★ Passive voice.

⇒The form of the verb which shows the importance of its object ( reciever of the action) rather than the subject is called the passive voice.

★ Change of voice.

⇒It must be remember that only transitive verb can be used in passive voice because an object is a must for a sentence to be rendered in passive from.

Intransitive verbs do not take objects in general. If, however, intransitive verb takes a cognate object ( made of itself) , it can be changed to passive voice.

Example of cognate objects :

Run → race

do → deed

Speak → speech

If transitive verb has two objects in the active voice, either of them can be made the subject in passive voice. Sentences can be change to passive voice in two ways.

There is no passive voice of the verbs used in future continuous tense and the three perfect continuous forms of all the three tenses. So, only 8 forms of verbs ( out of the 12 forms) can be changed to passive voice.
