Activity 1.3 Class 10 science ncert

Aim : Observing the characteristics indicators for the chemical reaction

Apparatus :

  • Conical flask
  • Zinc granules
  • conc. HCl
  • rubber cork
  • glass tube

Procedure :

  • Take a few Zinc granules in a conical flask
  • Add diluted HCl acid to this conical flask.

Observation :

we observe that when Zinc reacts with acid it gives zinc chloride and Hydrogen gas.

Balanced chemical reaction :

Zn (s)+ 2HCl(l)------------> ZnCl₂(aq)  + H₂(g)+ heat

Here we can observe that chemical reaction has occurred as two things we can see

  • evolution of gas
  • exothermic reaction- heat is released

Answer:

Explanation: Observation: Air Bubbles comes out from the granules, and Conical flask becomes warm.

Inference: Zinc granules react with hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid and forms hydrogen gas.

Zn(s) + 2HCl(aq) → ZnCl2(aq)+ H2↑ + heat

Zn(s) + 2H2SO4(aq) → ZnSO4(aq) + 2H2↑ + heat

Caution: Acids are corrosive and harmful for skin. Avoid touching them with bare skin.
