Activity 1: LINEAR EQUATIONS IN TWO VARIABLE:

Draw the graphs of the following equations on the graph paper: x-y=0, x+y=0 and x = 2.
Also find the area enclosed between the lines and shade the enclosed area.

Activity 2: COORADINATE GEOMETRY

Three vertices of a rectangle ABCD are A (3,1), B (-3,1) and C (-3,3). Plots these points on a
graph paper and find the coordinates of the fourth vertex D. Also find:
i) Perimeter and Area of rectangle ABCD.
ii) What is the distance between the point A and B.

Answer:

Activity 1 :-

x - y = 0

Let take x = 0

0 - y = 0

y = 0

Therefore, the coordinates of equation x - y = 0 is A(0,0)

x + y = 0

Let take x = 2

2 + y = 0

y = - 2

Therefore, the coordinates of equation x + y = 0 is B(2, - 2)

x = 2

Let take x = 2

so y = 2

Therefore, the coordinates of equation x = 2 is C(2,2)

By joining the coordinate of given equation.

Triangle is formed having vertices A(0,0), B(2,-2) and C(2,2)

Area of triangle ABC,

1/2 × base × height

1/2 × 4 × 2

1 × 2 × 2

4 cm^2

Activity 2 :-

Three vertices of a rectangle ABCD are A (3,1), B (-3,1) and C (-3,3) and the fourth vertices is D(3,3).

Area of rectangle ABCD

Length × breadth

6 × 2

12 cm^2

Perimeter of rectangle ABCD

2( length + breadth)

2( 6 + 2 )

2 (8)

16

Distance between Point A to Point B is 6 units.
