hey there!!!
the observations will be as follows-
1) we obs formation of gas in both the electrodes.
2) the amount of gas collected at cathode is double the amount of gas collected at anode.
3) the gas at cathode is hydrogen whereas the gas at anode is oxygen.
Now the question which is mainly asked-
Q- WHY IS THE AMOUNT OF GAS COLLECTED AT CATHODE DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF GAS COLLECTED AT ANODE?
ANS- IT IS BECAUSE 1 MOLECULE OF WATER(H20) IS MADE UP OS 1 ATOM OF OXYGEN AND 2 ATOMS OF HYDROGEN. THAT IS HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN ARE PRESENT IN THE RATIO 2:1 BY VOLUME.
HOPE IT HELPS :)
