Activity 3: Did you know that?

A dancer scored 7.5 and 8.2 from the
first two judges. What must her score
from the third judge come in as if she
is to average 8.4 or higher? Read the
problem carefully at the upper right part.
Complete the cycle as the indicated

Solution :-

→ Dancer scored from first judge = 7.5

→ Dancer scored from second judge = 8.2

and,

  • Total average = 8.4 or higher

we know that,

  • Average = sum of observations / total number of observations .

let us assume that, he scored x from third judges .

then,

→ (7.5 + 8.2 + x) / 3 ≥ 8.4

→ 15.7 + x ≥ 8.4 * 3

→ 15.7 + x ≥ 25.2

→ x ≥ 25.2 - 15.7

→ x ≥ 9.5 (Ans.)

Hence, in order to scored average 8.4 or higher he must scored 9.5 or higher scored from third judge .
