Explanation:

On Thursday, a Nilgai was found wandering around the seat of power in New Delhi (in the lawns near Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block, South Block, Parliament House). It was captured and released in the Asola Bhatti Wildlife sanctuary. The fact that a “wild" animal was found in the heart of Lutyens’ Delhi shouldn’t surprise anyone (no, we are not trying to be facetious here). Lutyens’ Delhi is rich in fauna—and we don’t mean animals belonging to either the or the species.

These monkeys, usually found in huge hordes, the males with characteristic (and funny) red bottoms, are everywhere. They especially seem to love South Block, and Dalhousie Road (you can find hundreds lounging there on a Sunday, when there isn’t much traffic). If you are lucky you can also see the Southern Plains Gray Langur (Semnopithecus dussumieri) or Hanuman Langur that’s used to chase them away. The langur (there is probably just one) isn’t wild, alas—it is captive. It once used to be seen sitting atop the carrier of a bicycle as it was ferried around the area by its owner/handler. It has since moved up in life and can be seen on the pillion of a motorcycle these days. The legality of using the langur for this purpose (and it is used by various government departments and many ministers who live in Lutyens’ bungalows) is clear—it is illegal.
