The main causes of deforestation are industrialisation, increase in human population, indiscriminate human settlements, global warming, droughts and floods.

Explanation:

Industrialisation causes pollution and wide-spread pollution contributes to global warming which is the main reason for unprecedented and unseasonal rains. Summers become harsh. Increase in human population leads to encroachment of forest areas, cutting down of trees for human consumption and so on.

All the above causes are man-made and can be prevented before it is too late.
