Concept:

Mathematical equation is a relation which involves two or more mathematical quantities, numbers, variables and mathematical operations which are related ultimately by an equal (=) sign.

Replace the unknown quantity by variable and then form a mathematical relation or equation which gives the required result.

Given:

Given that the statement is "Adding 15% of x to x is equal to multiplying x by"

Find:

The number by which x should be multiplied.

Solution:

Let Adding 15% of x to x is equal to multiplying x by n.

Here we have to find the value  of n.

Then, 15% of x is = 15x/100

add to x = x+15x/100 = 115x/100

Product of n and x = nx

According to condition,

115x/100 = nx

n = 115x/100x = 115/100 = 23/20

Hence adding 15% of x to x is equal to multiplying x by 23/20.
