According to the question-
1st case
x+y=50
=> x=50-y •••••••(1)
2nd case
(x-5)+(y-5)=24
=> x-5+y-5=24
=> x+y-10=24
=> x+y=24+10
=>x+y =34
Putting the value of 'x' from equation 1,we get:
50-y+y=34
=> 50=34 (because y will get cancelled)
