Plane Table Surveying is most suitable for preparing small‐scale maps.

Plane Table Survey is a very swift method of surveying.

The field book is not necessary as plotting is done in the field simultaneously with the field work. So the possible errors of the field book can be avoided.

The surveyor can compare the plotted work with the actual features of the area surveyed and thus can ascertain if it represents temporarily.

It is particularly advantageous in magnetic areas where compass survey is not reliable.

Plane table survey is less costly than most of the surveying technique.

It does not require skilled hands

Plane table surveying: Plane table surveying is the part of survey work which is carried by the process called graphical method or representation requiring various heavy weightage tools to perform. Since this surveying is done by graphical method, means whatever the data comes by performing the operation involved in the process on the field is written on the drawing sheet immediately.

Advantages of plane table surveying:

1. It is used to perform compared to theodolite surveying.

2. The cost, it takes to be performed, is less than other surveying methods.

3. It is made in use for the areas meant for surveying where compass surveying cannot be made in use due to casual parameters.

4. It does not require skilled people to be performed. Anyone with experience of surveying work can easily perform it so well.

5. The mistakes that come into the light while writing data in the field book is neglected to some certain extent.

Disadvantages of plane table surveying:

1. It does not give accurate results once the operation is performed.

2. It takes a good amount of time to be performed well.

3. It can not be made in use in the rainy season.

4. It contains very heavy weightage of tools that usually create problems while transporting to the site at which surveying has to be done.

5. Since there are so many equipments/apparatus, there is likelihood of them being lost.

6. The person who operates plane table surveying may get affected badly due to natural influences such as sunlight with high radiation, rains, fogs e.t.c
