Splash lubrication is the way the oil is applied to several areas of need within an engine. Basically, a rod descends into the oil source and splashes the oil in the containment system up, reaching the areas that need lubrication. You just had to have faith that the oil would get where it’s needed. This is the way the first internal combustion engines worked. My brother’s truck was a bit more updated in that the lubrication was achieved by a dipper that goes into the oil and puts the lubricant more directly on the oil dependent components. It’s still called a Splash Lubricant System—its just a bit more direct in function.
