An advantage of incomplete combustion is that it's easier to achieve than complete combustion. Disadvantages are that it's less efficient - less of the material reacts with oxygen so less heat is produced - and it produces more pollution - instead of all becoming co2, some of the carbon becomes the toxic carbon monoxide or becomes elemental carbon.
