The advantages / benefits of biodiversity are as follows :-
■ Ecological benefits :-
- A more diverse ecosystem is better able to withstand environmental stress and consequently is more productive.
- The loss of a species is thus likely to decrease the ability of the ecosystem to maintain itself or to recover from damage or disturbance.
■ Economic benefits :-
Some of the important economic commodities like food, crops, livestock, forestry and fishes, are supplied to Humankind.
■ Medication :-
Wild plant species have been used for medicinal purposes since before the beginning of recorded history.
■ Industry :-
- Biodiversity may serve as a great source of energy (Biomass).
- Industrial products such as oils, lubricants, perfumes, fragrances, dyes, paper, waxes, rubber, latexes, resins, poisons and cork, can be derived from various plant species.
- Supplies from animal origin include wool, skin, fur, leather, lubricants and waxes. Animals may also be used as a mode of transport.

- Biodiversity is a source of economical wealth for many areas, such as parks and forests, where nature and animals serve as the sources of joy for many people.
- Ecotourism, in particular, is enhancing outdoor recreational activities.
■ Scientific benefits :-
- Biodiversity is important because each species can give scientists some clue as to how life evolved and how it will continue to evolve on Earth.
- In addition, biodiversity helps scientists understand how life functions and also informs about the role of each and every species in sustaining the ecosystem.
