A true ‘slate pencil’ is actually made of soft slate and is designed to write on slate, but the pencil is also made from slate. If you swallow tiny bits you will probably just pass them through, but there is a danger that as it is slate, pieces can break off with sharp edges, and that can have a detrimental effect on your insides. Not recommended.

If it is chalk you are referring to then if you eat a lot, you may cause damage to your kidneys as an excess of calcium is not good for you.

If you are ‘eating’ these regularly, then I would go and talk to a nutritionist as you may well have a mineral deficiency which you are trying to correct, and chalk may not be the correct remedy.
