It's a standardized arrangement of every chromosomes of a cell.  

Diploid organisms of autosomal chromosomes are present in two similar copies though polyploid cells have multiple copies of chromosomes as compared to haploid cells.  

Chromosomes are arranged and displayed in standard format known as an idiogram ordered by size and position of centromere for chromosomes of same size.  

Karyotypes used to study chromosomal aberrations and used to verify other macroscopically visible aspects of an individual's genotype as sex.
