After 24 years ,
Jerry age = x + 24

then , x+24 = 3(x - 4)
x + 24 = 3x - 12
x - 3x = -12 - 24
-2x = -36
x = 18

So, 24 years later Jerry's age will be (a+24) years.

and 4 years ago Jerry's age was (a-4)years.
