After a vigorous exercise we feel pain due to lactic acid produced in our muscles in the absence of oxygen. If respiration is enough to give us oxygen no lactic acid will be produced and no pain will be there

After a vigorous exercise or work we feel pain in muscles. Because:

1) We obtain energy by oxidation of glucose molecule.

2) In the absence of oxygen (aerobic respiration) glucose is converted to lactic acid.

3) During vigorous exercise oxygen gets used up fast in the muscle cells that can be supplied by blood.

4) When oxygen supply is inadequate the muscles use energy released during the anaerobic breakdown of glucose.

5) The anerobic respiration by muscles bring the about a partial breakdown of glucose from lactic acid.

6) The accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles causes muscular pain or cramps.
