After dipping a blue litmus paper to water used to washing clothes a student suggests his mother not to use the soap because it was a hard water.

When a soap is used in a hard water it is generally found that the soap fails to create any kind of foam  due to the formation of SCUM. This is basically created when the soap actually reacts with  calcium or a magnesium product and then a white precipitate is formed out of it and hence fails to wash the clothes.

The boy advised his mother not to use soap after dipping blue litmus paper into the water because that water contains calcium and magnesium salt that makes the water hard. When soap that are fatty sodium acid when react with this hard water it will form a insoluble scum that can stick on the clothes and that soap will not produce the foam because of the curdy precipitate and his mother won’t be able to clean the cloths.
