First, we'll find the selling price of the shirt when it's sold for the first discount.

$\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{(100 - 12.5)}{100} \times 500$

$\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{87.5}{100} \times 500$

$\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{875}{1000} \times 500$

$\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{875}{2} \times 1$

$\sf \dashrightarrow \cancel \dfrac{875}{2} = 437.5$

Now, we can find the value of the second discount by the formula of selling price.

Second successive discount :

$\sf \dashrightarrow SP = \dfrac{(100 - Discount\%)}{100} \times CP$

$\sf \dashrightarrow 420 = \dfrac{(100 - D)}{100} \times 437.5$
