The harvesting stubs should be left in the field or burnt because the nutrients that are in the harvesting stub is recycled back to the soil to make it fertile.
These stubs consist of harvesting process residual materials which are mostly husks, bagasse, molasses and seeds, these are generally rich in potassium that is necessary for proper crop growth and hence they are burnt. On the flip side this burning also causes a large amount of air pollution.
