After studying the detailed structure of cell
membrane and after the discovery of electrons
microscope. It was revealed from chemical studies
that cell membrane is a lipid bilayer structure with
integral and peripheral proteins. After that it was
also concluded that cell membrane also contain
some amount of carbohydrate unit.
(i) What do you mean by the bilayer of cell membrane
made up of lipids?
(ii) What are peripheral and integral proteins?

The lipid bilayer (or phospholipid bilayer) is a thin polar membrane made of two layers of lipid molecules. ... Biological bilayers are usually composed of amphiphilic phospholipids that have a hydrophilic phosphate head and a hydrophobic tail consisting of two fatty acid chains.

Peripheral protein is only located in the inner or outer surface of the phospholipid bilayer like floating iceberg whereas integral protein is embedded in the whole bilayer. Integral proteins have hydrophobic and hydrophilic areas where as peripheral do not.

Hope this helps you and please mark me brainliest...........
