In my opinion, major reason for slow spread of consumer awareness is illiteracy. Till the time people are noteducated enough to know that a bill should be taken after every purchase, that what is the expiry date, what are the ingredients, the awareness level would not increase. Secondly, the legal system has to be quick. If it gets quick, it would get cheaper. More courts and judges should be employed to cater needs of such a large population.Many consumers don't file a complaint due to long and lengthy procedure of courts.
Beside these two major reasons, there are some structural problems like, no issuance of bill or memo by producers. It is the duty of the consumer too, to ask for a memo.The existing laws also are not very clear on the issue of compensation to consumers injured by defective products.
