Let the age of son be x

Therefore, the age of father is 4x

After 6 years,

Son's age = x+6

Father's age = 4x+6

Let the ratio be 5x:2x

Therefore, 5x:2x = x+6:4x+6

Or, 5x+2x = x+6+4x+6

Or, 7x = 5x+12

Or, 7x-5x = 12

Or, 2x = 12

Or, x = 12/2 = 6

Therefore, son's age = x = 6

And, father's age = 4x = 4×6 = 24.(answer).

The present age of the son and his father is 6 years and 24 years respectively.
