Agriculture is called as the backbone of India because India has more than 649481 villages.

More than 70% of the population depends upon agriculture.

Agriculture also provides employment for more than 52% of the people in India.

The primary sector (agriculture) has GDP growth between 14% to 15%.

India is also called as agricultural country because different states produces different products.

Such as Andrapradesh- Rice.

Maharastra- bananas and sugarcane

Kerala- coconuts...etc

Hence we can call Agriculture as back bone of Indi.
