Structurally, DNA and RNA are nearly identical. As mentioned earlier, however, there are three fundamentaldifferences that account for the very different functions of the two molecules. RNA has a ribose sugar instead of a deoxyribose sugar likeDNA. RNA nucleotides have a uracil base instead of thymine.

DNA

It is double stranded nucleic acid.

It contains deoxyribise sugar.

It contains Thymine (T) as a nitrogenous base.

It is the genetic and hereditary material of the cells.

It is present in the nucleus of the cells.

RNA

It is single stranded nucleic acid.

It contains ribose sugar.

It contains Uracil (U) instead of Thymine.

It is involved in synthesis of proteins.

It is present in both nucleus and cytoplasm.
