As the name indicates air breaks uses the pressure of air to stop a vehicle. Air in stored in air storage tank which is compressed by the compressor ultimately connected it into the engine power. When the brakes are applied the air from storage tank goes to the cylinder and under the pressure of gases the piston is pushed down at the result of which brake are applied on the automobile. This is how the air brakes work.
