the interwined dna strand start separating from a particular point called origin of replication.this unwinding is catalysed by enzymes called helicases. enzyme called topoisomerases breaK AND RESEAL ONE of the strands of dna ,so that the unwound strand will not wind back. when the double stranded dna is unwound upto a point , it shows a y shaped structure called replication fork

Hey !!

The process by which a DNA molecule produces two identical copies of itself is called replication of DNA. In the DNA double helix, the sequence of bases in one chain is complementary to the sequence in the other chain, therefore, one controls the other.

During cell division (mitosis), the two strands of the DNA double helix partly unwind and each serves as the template for the synthesis of a new DNA molecule.

DNA replication follows the base pairing rules by which A pairs with T and G pairs with C. Therefore, each daughter molecule is an exact replication of the parent molecule , DNA replication is semiconservative, i.e,. only half of the parental DNA is conserved and only one strand is synthesised.

DNA replication takes place only in the 5 -----> 3 Direction.

Hope it helps you !!
