The mass of air is 1.152 kg.

Air is kept at a pressure of 200 kPa and a temperature of 30°C in a 500 liters container.

We have to find the mass of the air.

Here given,

  • Pressure, P = 200 kPa = 1.974 atm [ ∵ 1Pa = 9.87 × 10¯⁶ atm ]
  • temperature, T = 30°C = 30 + 273 = 303K
  • volume , V = 500 L
  • universal gas constant, R = 0.082 atm.L/mol/K

using formula, PV = nRT

⇒1.974 × 500 = n × 0.082 × 303

⇒n = (1.974 × 500)/(0.082 × 303) = 39.725

we know, molecular weight of air, M = 29 g/mol

mass of air = no of moles × molecular weight of air

mass of air = 39.725 × 29 = 1152.025g ≈ 1.152 kg

Therefore the mass of air is 1.152 kg.
