Air is a mixture and not a compound because of following reasons: Air can be separated into its constituents such as oxygen, nitrogen etc. by fractional distillation of liquid air. Air shows the properties of all the gases present in it. For example: Air supports combustion because of oxygen present in air.........

hope this helps you........

Explanation:

Air is mixture of many gases such nitrogen (71%) , oxygen (21%) , carbon dioxide (0.00008%) . and particles such as dust , smoke, water droplets etc.

As we cannot called air as compound because there is no exact amount of substance present in it , so we call them as mixture.
