The higher you go, the air becomes less and less dense, making it harder for a plane to fly.
Less dense air makes the wings a little ineffective. The engines find it harder to run as they get less air for combustion, meaning the pilot has to run with more throttle, but the resultant thrust will be less.

The airports at high elevations have longer runways for takeoffs because at high elevations the aircraft engine performance will be low because of thin air while airports at sea level have thicker air so aircraft engines perfinance will be normal
