Ajay takes 3 hours to travel from City A to City B at his
normal speed. However, he can travel the same
distance in 2 hours by travelling at 'x' km/h. Find the
normal speed of Ajay if the difference between the
speeds is 20 km/h.
Answers
Given:
Time taken by Ajay to travel from city A to city B = 3 hours
He travels the same distance in 2 hours with speed = x km/hr
Difference between normal speed and x = 20 km /hr
To find:
The normal speed of Ajay.
Solution:
Let the normal speed be y km/hr
We know that speed = distance/ time
y = d/3........(1)
x = d/2..........(2)
As given: x- y = 20.............(3)
Now we have three equation and three variables.
Putting the value of x and y in equation 3 we get:
d/2 - d/3 = 20
d/6 = 20
d = 120 km
y = d/3 = 120/3 = 40 km/hr
Therefore the normal speed of Ajay is 40 km/hr.
SOLUTION
GIVEN
- Ajay takes 3 hours to travel from City A to City B at his normal speed.
- However, he can travel the same distance in 2 hours by travelling at 'x' km/h.
TO DETERMINE
The normal speed of Ajay if the difference between the speeds is 20 km/h.
FORMULA TO BE IMPLEMENTED
Distance = Speed × Time
EVALUATION
Here it is given that Ajay takes 3 hours to travel from City A to City B at his normal speed.
Now Ajay can travel the same distance in 2 hours by travelling at 'x' km/h.
So the distance = 2x km
So Ajay travels distance of 2x km in 3 hours
So normal speed of Ajay
So by the given condition
So normal speed of Ajay is
Hence the normal speed of Ajay is 40 km/h
