• Let the present age of John be x years.

Therefore , present age of Akshay will be (x+2) years.

• Product of the ages is 2208.

• Therefore,

x (x+2) = 2208

x² + 2x = 2208

x² + 2x -2208 = 0

x² + 48x - 46x - 2206 = 0

x(x + 48) - 46 (x + 48) = 0

(x+48)(x-46) = 0

Therefore , x = 46 and x = -48

• As age cannot be negative , x = 46

• John's age is 46 years.

• Therefore, Akshay's age will be 48 years.
