In ΔXCY,
∠Y = 90°
XC² = XY² + CY² (By Pythagoras theorem)
CY² = XC² + XY²
CY² = 37² - 12²
CY² = 1225
CY = 35 m
Now, In ΔABC,
∠B = 90°
BC = 12 m (By Pythagoras theorem)
Therefore, the width of the street BY = BC + CY
= 35 + 12
= 47 m
